it's party time~

Backyard Pirate Ship by Seán Duggan
My neighbors had a pirate themed birthday party for their grandson last month and set up a pretty cool pirate ship (complete with a full-sized skeleton) in their backyard. When you're a kid, it just doesn't get much better than that...

Tail Wheel by Seán Duggan
This is an old DC-3 along Highway 99 in California's central valley. Judging by its appearence, it hasn't been aloft in many years. Another image of this plane is coming tomorrow.

Desert Raven by Seán Duggan
Death Valley National ParkJust before I stopped at this overlook a military jet came screaming over the landscape and dove into the canyon in the background of this image. My guess is that the pilot had some form of ground-hugging radar engaged as the jet was really low and following the contours of the canyon quite closely. It roared down the canyon and disappeared into the Panamint Valley below. About 30 minutes later, I saw from another vantage point farther down the road that it shot back up through this canyon the same way it had entered. The China Lake Naval Weapons Station is quite close to this section of Death Valley National Park so I imagine that this type of activity is pretty common, but it was the first time I had been so close to such a low flying fighter jet.
And as for the raven, silently lifting off the edge of the precipice and flying off into the canyon...that was a gift.

post your best Holga shots to win some free film at Photo.Net. They have started a new Film Based monthly column there.

Christina Taylor:

The simplicity of the Holga allows great creativity. Double exposures and panoramas (holgaramas) are fairly easy to master as there is nothing built in to prevent them.
Because they are so cheap, it is easy to modify them with simple tools, for example, adapting a Holga to accept 35mm film requires only a few rubber bands and some sponge. And of course, if you do break one, it's not too expensive to replace.
The above photo is a double exposed star trail photo. I set my Holga up on a tripod, set it to B (bulb), and held the shutter button down with string and tape (and repeat).
